Massive and memorable, the ‘48 Tucker Torpedo was eons ahead of its time. Riding at 219 inches on a 130-inch wheelbase, the Torpedo was a four-door sedan that included a gracefully sloping roof accented by fin taillights. The long back was necessary as the car was rear-engined, drawing its power from a “pancake six”. Up front was a Tucker trademark - three headlights, one on each side and a center-mounted roving headlight that pointed in whatever direction the car was moving. And move it could - a Tucker was timed at more than 131 mph at Bonneville in 1950.
