Unbeknownst to neophyte "Dukes" fans, the car that came to be the General Lee was not always in the service of the Duke boys. The car began its life as a black '69 Dodge Charger that was initially used and wrecked by thieves, before ending up in the Capital City junkyard. Bo and Luke bought it, and took it too Cooter's Garage, where the doors were welded shut, and it was painted its familiar orange because it was the only color Cooter had!
