In 1964 the NHRA's Super Stock drag racing circuit continued to draw the undivided attention of the car buying public. Dodge became heavily involved with the introduction of the 1964 330 Hemi. With the increased engine displacement and the light-weight body the 330 was a precursor to the altered wheelbase "funnycars" to appear in 1965. The 426 Hemi was introduced in February of 1964 and carried a conservative horsepower rating of 425 although over 500 horses was a more accurate figure.
