Any knowledgeable discussion of Ford high-performance must include the name Bob Tasca for his successful fleet of Ford drag racers, which greatly increased showroom traffic. The Boss 429 followed on the heels of Tasca’s hugely successful Cobra Jet Mustangs, and a limited supply of “Super Street” Boss 429’s blew off the Tasca lot in 1969. This big-block beast sported a modified 494 cid. Can-Am transmission, an automatic transmission, and an in-your-face paint scheme that featured paint and graphics of multiple hues. Tasca boldly offered $1,000 to anyone who could beat the Super Boss, but with the ability to run 11-second ET’s on street tires, it was a safe bet.
